Telegram to Add Group Video Calls with Security Features
Telegram has been quick on pouncing the opportunity of Video calls as dark clouds loom over Zoom at the moment. Currently, Telegram has a user base of 400 million active users every month. The company has announced that they will be deploying a group Video calling service on their platform.
The company claims that not even a single company is offering both usability and security, so they are looking to develop a product that provides both. This move from Telegram could prove costly for Zoom, which has been exposed for security reasons in the past.
Telegram has been taking giant strides in the messaging market as it has doubled its user base in two years, according to the company’s claims. If claims are to go by, then Telegram is being downloaded by 1.5 million users every single day.
Coronavirus has been the main reason behind the introduction of group call feature in their application which could probably solve the problem of connectivity with people securely.
At present Telegram is offering features like sending messages, voice calls, and Secret chat option, which is the USP of Telegram that provides end to end encryption. Another unique aspect of this messaging service is that we can add N number of people in a group, unlike WhatsApp.
Due to Coronavirus, many applications like Zoom, Facebook, Google Meet, and WhatsApp has seen a significant jump in their userbase in a few weeks.
According to the reports, Zoom has added more than 100 million new users where Google’s latest assignment has been getting traction with 2 million users adding up every day.
The Big Tech Giant Facebook revealed that more than 700 million accounts are engaging in video and voice calls on Messenger and WhatsApp. It will be interesting to see what revolution can Telegram bring for video calls.
